NHL: 2-year contract extension for Philippe Myers

Defenseman Philippe Myers has signed a two-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He will receive an annual salary of $850,000 during this agreement.

The 27-year-old from Moncton, New Brunswick signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Leafs last summer.

He has two assists in 11 games this season, while averaging 17:08 of ice time.

An undrafted player, Myers has 169 games of NHL experience with the Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Maple Leafs since the 2018-19 campaign, amassing eight goals and 30 assists. He had three goals and one assist in 16 playoff games, all with the Flyers in 2020.

The Leafs are stuck on waivers

Furthermore, the Maple Leafs claimed defenseman Dakota Mermis on waivers.

Mermis had been made available by the Utah Hockey Club.

He was immediately traded to the Marlies in the AHL.

Mermis, who is 30 years old, has played 75 career NHL games with Arizona/Utah, New Jersey and Minnesota. He scored four goals and had eight assists.
