After Deinze, another Belgian club should soon go bankrupt. KFC Diest should not escape the sentence.
The season is turning into a nightmare for KFC Diest. The club is hit by serious financial problems, and this is reflected on the pitch: the team is dead last in P1 with only one point collected in 16 matches. The players are no longer paid.
The situation is very painful for Danny Boffin, who has sometimes had to draw to put together a team to field. The former Red Devil (notably spent by RFC Liège, Anderlecht and Standard) however remained on board the ship. But the consequences could now be much more serious.
Bankruptcy, now more than a threat
Two administrators were appointed to plan the procedure to follow regarding the debt of 400,000 euros. One of them, Jacques Arnauts-Smeets, explains to Gazet van Antwerp that three scenarios are possible.
“First, the judge can take the case into consideration and declare bankruptcy. Second, it is possible to find a candidate buyer with sufficient financial resources. Then, the case is postponed and finally resolved. Third, there remains the possibility that the debts be increased by the current board of directors before January 2” he analyzes.
But these three solutions are there in principle. According to Gazet van Antwerpen, bankruptcy should indeed be declared on January 2. A sad end for Timmy Simons' former club, which spent nine seasons in the first division until 1975.
