Beveren won 0-1 in Lokeren. Lennart Mertens scored his first goal for his new team.
In September, Lokeren had kicked off their season by getting their first victory in the Waas derby against Beveren. A match which meant a lot in the region, deprived of a derby for several years, in particular because of the bankruptcy of Lokeren.
This afternoon's match in Daknam was therefore once again eagerly awaited by supporters of both camps. It only took one goal to decide the outcome of the match.
A goal which was scored at the end of the first half. After a free kick cleared by the Lokeren defense, Lennart Mertens appeared behind the rearguard to make the score 0-1.
Mertens, a first goal that comes at the right time
A great story for the scorer of the day, who arrived at the club a month ago following the bankruptcy of Deinze. Quite logically, Lokeren took the second half into his own hands by pushing so much and more, without finding the fault.
Enough to allow visiting supporters to party in Daknam. Waasland thus consolidates its place in the top 6, Lokeren is only four points from the red zone.
