No imminent agreement between Olivier and the Jackets

There is reportedly “no imminent agreement” in contract negotiations between forward Mathieu Olivier and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This is what Renaud Lavoie reported on Friday to “JiC”.

The sturdy Quebec winger is currently in the final year of a two-year contract with the Jackets.

Olivier, 27, is having the season of his life so far, with eight goals and five assists in 33 games, in addition to having definitively established himself as one of the most feared brawlers in the NHL.

According to Renaud, negotiations for a contract extension began at the beginning of the month, but for the moment, we are far from an agreement.

“It’s music to my ears, because we want to have it in Montreal,” declared the reporter, arguing that Olivier could undoubtedly hope for a four or five year pact earning him 2.75 or 3 million $ annually.

Olivier, who “had to work extremely hard to get the recognition of his coaches,” had his first game of more than 20 minutes on Thursday night in a 4-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils, Renaud noted.

“His coaches have a lot of confidence in him,” he then summed up.
