This Saturday, December 21 afternoon, the Saint-Brieuc club, little Breton thumb, faces a league 1, Le Havre, in the 32nd final of the French Cup. The brand new stand at the Fred-Aubert stadium will indeed be open. It remains for the Costa Rican players to defy logic and stir up the Normans who are certainly thinking more about saving their skin in Ligue1 than doing well in the cup.

The Fred-Daubert stadium in Saint-Brieuc should be as full as an egg, this Saturday, December 21 at 3:30 p.m., to welcome Le Havre in the French Cup. A national2 against a Ligue1, the duel promises to be unbalanced.
But the Briochins have some good reasons to believe it.
This is the very essence of the French Cup: surprises! Certainly, in the end, with a few rare exceptions, it is elite clubs that we find in the final in May at the Stade de France.
But before that, there are always small clubs that are doing well, acquiring one or more professional teams along the way. Remember Calais, a 4th level club, like Saint-Brieuc today, and finalist of the French Cup in 2000?
In these “David versus Goliath” duels, the little ones have nothing to lose, the big ones nothing to gain. And of course, the public loves it when the little one devours the big one! It is therefore an understatement to say that the Briochin stadium will have an audience committed to its cause. And this audience could play their role as the 12th man. We learned this Thursday, December 19, the safety commission gave the green light to open the brand new grandstand, brand new (the old one, dating from 1957 and no longer up to standard, was completely destroyed) with its 1079 places.
The stadium should be full. Molten!
In Group B of National 2, Stade Briochin has taken a good lead over the red zone in recent weeks. He has only lost once in his last 6 days. The club from the Costa Rican capital moved up to 10th place in the rankings. He now has a relatively comfortable lead of 5 points over the first relegation place.
In the French Cup, Saint-Brieuc eliminated another Breton club which plays at the same level, Saint-Malo. A victory on penalties which confirms the positive spiral of the Briochins.
During the 1966 edition of the Coupe de France, Brittany was fired up for its “little thumbs”: Stade Briochin faced in 1/16e final the prestigious Olympique de Marseille. A “clash of extremes” between the resident of the Honorary Division of the Western Football League and a Marseille club already winner of six French Cups!
This long-awaited meeting in Saint-Brieuc takes place in Brest, on the grounds of the Armoricaine stadium (current Francis-Le Blé stadium). And what had to happen happened: Stade Briochin won the game by a goal to zero.
Alas, the Bretons will lose in the next round against RC Strasbourg, the future winner!
Certainly, Le Have is a professional club which plays among the elite of French football. The HAC has trained some great players, like Paul Pogba or Ferlan Mendy. But today, the club is fighting for its survival in Ligue 1, where it is languishing in 17th place. Le Havre is therefore relegated and will surely concentrate on the championship, even if it means letting the French Cup slip away. An opportunity to seize for Saint-Brieuc!
