Max Verstappen will have a new work colleague in 2025. Formula 1 world champion four times in a row with Red Bull, the Dutchman always had Sergio Pérez at his side in the garage during his coronations. But, on Wednesday December 18, the Mexican announced his departure – or more precisely formalized his ouster – from the Austrian team, which he had joined in 2021 and with whom he won five races and two constructors’ world championship titles ( in 2022 and 2023).

Despite a contract running until 2026, Sergio Pérez, 34, has paid for his poor results this season. Only eighth in the drivers’ standings in 2024, with almost three times fewer points than his teammate, he was ousted in favor of another, twelve years his junior. On Thursday, Red Bull announced the tenure of New Zealander Liam Lawson, who had finished the season with Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s backroom team.

The latter’s big leap is just one example among others of the waltz of the seats in 2025. In all, nine steering wheels have found a new driver, knowing that a Racing Bulls car does not yet know who will drive it .
