“The most important thing is to know how to bounce back”: Maxime d’Ornano confides after his departure from FC Rouen

You celebrated your 44th birthday on Monday (November 16). What can we wish you for your birthday?

How did you experience your ouster from FC Rouen on November 1?

It’s the first time that this has happened to me, it’s not pleasant, but I didn’t have time to think about it because I was leaving immediately afterwards for Servette in Geneva (Switzerland) and straight away in training in Amiens, still as part of my BEPF

Did you find this dismissal unfair, despite everything?

We had just lost against Dijon (1-0), a fairly balanced match during which we were denied a goal at the end, even though there was no offside. Afterwards, there you have it, Football is like that. The idea is to quickly move on to something else.

Did you still have levers to turn the team around?

Yes, I had the support of the players, the staff, and we must return to the beginning of the season, marked by quite a few twists and turns: late recruitment and limited resources at that time (before the arrival of the new Dutch president Iwan Postel). And then, we weren’t far away. The content was coherent, it didn’t matter much.

You brought this club up to the National level and took it to the top of the rankings last year despite two player departures in January. Things are quickly forgotten, right?

What did your internship at Servette de Genève bring you?

I went there thanks to a former Rouen player, Sofiane Bouzamoucha. They opened all their doors to me, I had discussions with the coach, Thomas Häberli, who was also the coach of Estonia. I saw their match in Lausanne, which they considered a derby. There were 12,000 people, it was great.

More generally, what does this training at BEPF bring you?

It is very rich, there are many speakers. We went to Amiens, Nantes, Pau, Angers. We are going to go to Strasbourg, Nice… We are sweeping all areas of a club, whether it is communication, management or training. The exchanges with our trainers, Jacky Bonnevay and Francis Gillot – who is also my tutor -, as well as with the other members of the promotion, are very interesting. There are only ten of us but we all have diverse and varied backgrounds.

What projects might interest you?

I aspire to coach at the highest level of my possibilities. I am looking for a project that suits me, with great values ​​and ambitions.

Could it be overseas?

Yes, I have already had some advanced contacts. These are just contacts but I’m not closing the door.
