(Paris) Charlie Dalin, whose lead has diminished in recent days, is still resisting Yoann Richomme at the head of the 10e edition of the Vendée Globe, which experienced a racing incident on Sunday evening with the dismasting of the British Pip Hare in the south of Australia.
Published at 5:50 a.m.
As of Monday morning at 7 a.m., Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) has seen the gap narrow again since Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) is 41 nautical miles away, compared to 66.13 miles the previous evening. And there are still two on the heels of the Norman since Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) is also nibbling, 126.37 minutes behind the leader.
The three skippers are sailing in the Pacific, far ahead of the competition since the 4eThomas Ruyant, sails more than 800 miles, between Tasmania and New Zealand.
A change has occurred in the top 5 : Nicolas Lunven (Holcim-PRB) passed Jérémie Beyou (Charal), now 6e. But the two skippers remain neck and neck, with a gap of less than 2 miles.
Further back, the British Pip Hare was the victim of a dismasting late on Sunday, in the south of Australia.
The navigator, who occupied 15e place at the time of the damage, “was not injured”, indicated the organization, adding that its team was working “closely with the race management to secure the boat”.
