The Lévis Knights won the 2024 CCM Challenge of the U18 AAA Hockey Development League with a 5-1 victory against the Cantonniers de Magog on Sunday in Châteauguay.
Pier-Luc Giguère’s troupe thus offers its fourth championship at the Challenge (2010, 2014, 2018 and 2024) in ten appearances. Last year, the Knights lost against Magog in the grand final.
The Knights opened the scoring with too many in the first period, when forward Alex Desruisseaux seized a return shot from Charles-Antoine Dubé to make it 1-0.
Then in the second period, the Cantonniers scored, the work of defender Louka Tremblay who obtained his first goal of the tournament, well directed in the sequence by Deryk Lemaire and Félix Cadran. It’s 1 to 1.
In the third, the Knights exploded with three goals in 2:31 to put the game out of the Cantonniers’ reach. Malyk Côté scored two goals in the sequence while Logan Bêty got the other.
Derek Asselin completed the mark.
Knights goalkeeper Antoine Proulx is credited with the win. With his double, Coté ends his tournament with six points.
