No wonder Ostend disappeared when we hear these stories: “The owner? Impossible to have a normal discussion with him” – All football

Much has been written about Paul Conway, the former owner of KV Ostend. Bram Keirsebilck, former head of communications at KVO, could write a book about it.

Behind the scenes in Ostend, some particularly crazy things happened during the last months of the reign of Paul Conway, the American investor in the Coastal region. Bram Keirsebilckresponsible for communications and press relations in Ostend, spoke about it during his appearance in the podcast MidMid.

“He wanted the players to call the supporters to sell them subscriptions. As communications manager, I said to myself that it was above all an opportunity to make a great video,” says Keisebilck. But Conway didn’t see it as just a PR operation.

“No, the players actually had to call all the supporters and approach them to sell season tickets. I told Conway that it wasn’t possible, that they were on vacation, at the beach (laughs). It was during the offseason,” adds Bram Keirsebilck.

The principle of vacation did not really appeal to the American businessman. “He asked me: ‘But they are always paid, right?’. I had to explain to him what paid leave was. But he insisted: as they were paid, they had to do it from their vacation spot. “.

This is just one example of the incredible stories Keirsebilck can apparently tell about the American. “We couldn’t talk to him. He felt that Belgian football was corrupt and that he was going to solve the problem. We couldn’t have a normal conversation with him,” he says.
