Bixente Lizarazu, the disaster

While Paul Pogba is announced in the little papers of Olympique de , other Blues have had a very bad experience with their past in the Marseille city. This is evidenced by the bad experience of Bixente Lizarazu.

The winter transfer window promises to be once again lively at Olympique de Marseille despite the Olympian club's good start to the season. And one name is at the heart of all conversations, that of Paul Pogba, whom OM leaders would increasingly like to see arrive. And this despite the doubts surrounding the French world champion, suspended for 18 months for doping after suffering repeated injuries.

For many, the risk is too great for the second in Ligue 1. Above all, the Pogba case brings back certain bad memories, first and foremost that of Bixente Lizarazu. The French world champion has in fact only moved to Ciel et Blanc. Arriving at the end of his contract at Bayern Munich, where he won everything, and wanting, at 34, to return to , the Basque side nevertheless seemed seduced on his arrival in the Marseille city, believing “the exciting challenge” and the
“challenge to its measure”.

“If I had stayed, I would have plastered him”

However, after only six months, the former player decided to leave OM. Consequence of a disappointing start to the season which pushed José Anigo, the coach, to resign after two poor performances against and , as well as Jean-Christophe Bouchet, the president. And while Philippe Troussier arrives on the bench, Bixente Lizarazu quickly knows that the Olympian adventure is already coming to an end.

«I really enjoyed the period with José Anigo. Afterwards, I had a problem with a person,
he said after the end of his career, adding:
“Forty-eight hours after his arrival, during the training camp, I understood that I would not play. » But more than the non-existent playing time, it is Philippe Troussier's methods that are not working. “If I had stayed, I would have plastered him, he explained. I told myself that I couldn't come to this, because I had never felt this way in my life. It was better to cut the bullshit and move on. If it hadn't been for this coach, the adventure could have continued in Marseille. »

Six months and then gone. Bixente Lizarazu finally decides to return to Bayern Munich, where he quickly finds his place in the left lane of the Bavarian defense.“I understood that our operating methods, Philippe Troussier and myself, were not compatible. It was more than that, it was an incompatibility of characters which resulted in verbal clashes. In fact, we had nothing in common,”
he justifies.
