Mbappé's lawyer attacks the Swedish press

The closure of the investigation into the case in Stockholm led to the reaction of Mbappé's lawyer.

The Swedish prosecutor's office announced on Thursday the closure of the preliminary investigation into an alleged sexual assault committed in October in a Stockholm hotel and to which the Swedish media associated Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé, due to a lack of evidence.

“During the investigation, one person was named as a 'reasonable suspect' of rape and two cases of sexual offence, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed and therefore the case is closed,” said prosecutor Marina Chirakova in a statement released yesterday. According to Swedish public television SVT, it was Mbappé in particular who had the status of “reasonable suspicion”, the lowest level of suspicion in the Swedish penal code.

Following the closure of the investigation, Kylian Mbappé's lawyer spoke out against the Swedish press by declaring on TF1: “I maintain and I reiterate that at this stage, it is very possible that this will not or absolutely not him who was concerned by the complaint, which a priori exists.”

“The Swedish press, which will certainly continue so as not to fall into oblivion, still took the liberty of anticipating a certain number of things which were neither remotely nor closely in Mrs. Prosecutor in Sweden”, declared Maître Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard.

Mbappé had also dissociated himself from what happened. “Fake News”, he reacted on his networks after the controversial trip to Stockholm which he was the star of during the October truce. “I was surprised. I'm always surprised anyway. These are things that happen and that we don't see coming. I received nothing, no summons,” he reaffirmed during the 'a recent interview on Canal+ .
