That’s it! The confirmation of Pape Thiaw as national coach of Senegal seems imminent. It was approved yesterday Tuesday, during the meeting of the Executive Committee of the FSF. Barring any recent developments, the young 43-year-old technician should be confirmed in the coming days. He is a step ahead of Habib Bèye and Omar Daf, de facto dismissed by President Augustin Senghor and his collaborators.
The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Senegalese Football Federation this Tuesday looked at length at the file concerning the choice of the future national coach. As dsports.sn so well pointed out, in one of its Monday publications, the debates did not experience any major differences on the Pape Thiaw file. It was rather a block support from the entire Comex in favor of the interim Aliou Cissé which prevailed.
No dissenting voices during the debates following the president’s introduction. Augustin Senghor, however, wanted to clarify the names that were circulating in public opinion: Habib Bèye and Omar Daf. On the sidelines of all the interventions, the boss of Senegalese football indicated that none of these technicians we were talking about has officially contacted the FSF or shown the slightest interest in the position of national coach.
As for Pape Thiaw, he has already declared that he will be available to the Federation immediately after finishing his interim period. A statement that sounds like an application and a clear sign of interest in continuing the job with the selection.
Towards a one and a half year contract
If Pape Thiaw is freewheeling, this does not exclude the conditions set out during this Executive Committee. First, win the CAN 2025 in Morocco and qualify Senegal for the 2026 World Cup. Two major objectives which will be transmitted to the Minister of Sports.
A commission composed of Augustin Senghor, the National Technical Director Mayacine Mar and the President of the legal commission Kosso Diané, will be responsible for preparing a project which it will submit to the Sports Department to collect opinions when we know that as a third party payer, the guardianship always has a say.
In any case in his speech, Mayacine Mar the DTN effectively declined the criteria and the robot portrait refers directly to the former FC Metz striker: all avenues are now open to Pape Thiaw to succeed Aliou Cissé. Barring a last minute twist, the game is almost set for his appointment to the position for at least a year and a half.
