'I wouldn't have the energy', Guardiola announces he won't coach another club after Manchester City

During a podcast exchange with Spanish boss Dani Garcia, Pep Guardiola revealed he has no plans to coach another club after Manchester City. The 53-year-old coach, who admits to feeling a certain fatigue, does not rule out the possibility of becoming a coach in the future.

It is slowly reaching saturation. By his own admission, Pep Guardiola is feeling a certain physical and mental fatigue today, while Manchester City is going through a period of crisis, with only one victory in nine matches (all competitions combined). The 53-year-old coach, in office since 2016, seems particularly affected by these last trying weeks. After extending his contract for two more years last month, until 2027, the Skyblues manager no longer imagines himself at the head of another club in the future. This is what he confided during a podcast exchange with Spanish chef Dani Garcia.

“I'm not going to manage another team,” assured Pep Guardiola, who won fifteen major trophies with City. “What I won't do is leave Manchester City to go to another country and do the same thing as today. I wouldn't have the energy to start a whole training process somewhere else etc… No, no, no.”

“I think stopping would do me good”

The former coach of FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who began his career on the bench of the Blaugrana reserves in 2007, does not, however, rule out taking on a managerial role for the first time in the future. “Maybe a national team, but it’s different,” said the Catalan technician, who was approached last summer by the English federation, without following up.

Before considering taking charge of the destiny of a country, Pep Guardiola, who would like to have more time to play golf, believes he needs to take a step back from professional football: “I think that stopping me would do good.” In the meantime, the Manchester City coach will try to revive his team on the Juventus pitch, this Wednesday in the Champions League (9 p.m.), before hosting Manchester United for a derby expected on Sunday in the Premier League (5:30 p.m.).
