Two Manchester United players are on Ruben Amorim’s hot seat.
Finding the summits is the objective of Manchester United. This legendary English club is on a mission to be part of football’s elite. Yet, since the departure of their legendary coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has taken an unexpected direction. The Scottish coach left in 2013 and, since then, the Mancuniens have not won the Premier Leaguenor had the possibility of reaching the last square of the Champions League.
Many coaches have come and gone, but no one has found the magic recipe. Today it’s the turn of the Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim to take on the complicated challenge of getting the English club back on track. Former coach of Sporting Portugal, Amorim has shown great things nationally but also Europeanly, notably with a resounding victory against rival Manchester City in the Champions League. The leaders trust their new coach and Amorim wants to have the most competitive team possible. However, departures are requested by management, and in particular by the coach, who would like to part ways with Christian Eriksen et Antony to release funds in January.
Purchases seen as failures
The cases of Eriksen and Antony are two complicated situations. Arriving to strengthen the team, the two players failed to establish themselves as important elements. For the Brazilian, his arrival was greatly influenced by that of Erik ten Haghis former coach. Manchester United had made enormous financial efforts to recruit him, but the twirling winger failed to be as impactful in England as in the Netherlands.
From now on, their time is running out on the Manchester United side. Their departures are essential to be able to recruit and build a more competitive team for Ruben Amorim. Under contract until 2025, Christian Eriksen could leave the club freely this summer and would not provide any financial compensation to the club. Regarding Antony, with a contract lasting until 2027a departure would constitute a significant financial gain.
