Gasset's excuses after his breakdown against the referee

Great tension last night during the match between Montpellier and Lille (2-2). There was tension on all sides, notably with a ball cleared by Coulibaly towards the Lille bench which provoked the fury of Bruno Genesio, but especially of the entire northern bench, before an altercation lasting a few minutes. But this moment of tension was not the only one since Jean-Louis Gasset also saw red during the meeting.

By vigorously contesting a decision by Benoit Millot, Gasset forced the referee to show him a red card, synonymous with expulsion. After the match, the Montpellier coach nevertheless decided to calm things down. By going to see the referee at the final whistle first, before confirming his apologies to the press. “I went to see him to apologize and explain to him why I had gone crazy. There was no foul and when you are down 2-1, when you are preparing a change, when you are going to play your best, the slightest thing makes you lose your temper. At my age (70), I have no right to be this angry, but over the last three matches, the decisions have not been favorable to us,” Gasset explained to the press. Enough to avoid a heavy suspension?
