If C8 and NRJ12 actually disappear from the TNT landscape, the 1is March 2025, which channels will occupy the places that these two probable exits will leave vacant in the service plan?
Since the announcement by the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom), on July 24, to exclude the applications of C8 and NRJ12 from the new broadcasting authorizations on DTT (the final decision is expected at the beginning of December ), the exchange of arguments rages between the channels which would like to occupy these freed broadcast channels, and those which would see them accessing them with a negative eye.
When, on October 16, before the Senate culture committee, the president of Arcom, Roch-Olivier Maistre, also recognized “consider carefully” the possibility of forming a block of news channels, so as to, “in the public interest”bring LCI (channel 26) and Franceinfo (channel 27) closer to BFM-TV (channel 15) and CNews (channel 16), a real free-for-all has broken out.
The place retains its importance
This prospect that not two but six canals are likely to change tenants has turned into a race for the shallot. And why not create a block with children’s channels? With documentary channels? Go up The Parliamentary Channel or even L’Equipe (the latter requested it, revealed The Parisian Friday November 22)? “If we put everything back together, I would like the place of TF1 or that of France 2”said ironically, not without bitterness, Nicolas de Tavernost, in this same daily, on November 16.
For the new boss of the CMA Media news channel, the arrival in the immediate vicinity of the two competitors who until now occupied the back ranks can only be accompanied by a dilution of BFM’s audience -TV, and therefore a drop in advertising revenue. MPs Sophie Taillé-Polian (Val-de-Marne, Génération.s) and Céline Calvez (Hauts-de-Seine, Renaissance) even recommend, in a parliamentary report of which they are co-signatories, to install Franceinfo in place 12 or in place 14 to make the channel public broadcasting “the first continuous news channel in the order of channel numbering”. In the age of connected televisions and platforms, numbering remains important: DTT constitutes the “exclusive reception mode for nearly 20% of households”recalled Arcom in July.
