Making a decision on a whim is risky, but it can sometimes work out for us. This Saturday, November 30, Faridah, Corinne, Isabelle and Valérie will fly to Zagora in Morocco. These fifty-year-olds, from Lille (North), will participate in a four-day trek to support research against pediatric cancers.

A charity trek to support sick children

“Le trek des gazelles by Mélanie” was created in 2015 by Mélanie Ségales, in tribute to her husband, who was sick with cancer and could no longer travel. She then thought about bringing together women to do a charity trek, the profits from which would be donated to children with cancer and research into pediatric cancers.

Until last year, only Valérie and Faridah knew about the concept. In January 2024, Isabelle talks with a colleague in the pharmacy, who will introduce her to this “gazelle trek by Mélanie”. Shortly after, she shared this exchange with Valérie who was already familiar with the concept: “We barely had time to think for half a week, since we had to register on January 14, 2024.” Despite the number limited places, the five friends managed to register

then prepared alone for this adventure which will begin on December 1st and which will last four days. They will walk 25 km daily, with yoga in the morning and meditation in the evening.

“It’s not cheap, but it’s for a good cause”

To take part in the adventure, you still need to count around 2,000 euros in registration fees for the 2024 edition, plus plane tickets and hotel room for the first and last evening. “It’s not cheap, but hey, it’s for a good cause!” » This is also their main motivation for participating in the event: “We run often and we do all the charity races, particularly those against violence against women or for Pink October. » They are, moreover, involved in various associations such as the Blouses Roses or the Fourchettes Roses.
