: Neuchâtel Xamax lodged a protest after its defeat against Thun

Four days after the final whistle, the match between Neuchâtel Xamax and FC Thun is not over. The Bernese’s 3-2 victory at La Maladière on Friday, which allowed them to extend their lead at the top of the Challenge League, is contested by the red and black club. The Xamaxian leaders have in fact lodged a protest with the Swiss League.

The reason? The Neuchâtel club believes that referee Hüsseyin Sanli committed a technical foul when Thounais equalized at 2-2 in the 89th minute, on an autogoal by Euclides Cabral.

Indeed, shortly before the ball crossed the line, the referee would have whistled a prior foul by a defender on an opposing attacker. However, the latter was able to send a cross, propelled by the Xamax defender into his own goal.

On the videos of the match, it appears that the whistle was blown before the goal. However, it has been validated. And, a few minutes later, Thun made it 3-2.

Neuchâtel Xamax asks the SFL for the match to be replayed. The case is now forwarded to the League’s Disciplinary Commission.
