Four teams have interest in Canadiens players

As we reported on Friday, Martin St-Louis will soon have to move a few cards in his deck while Patrik Laine et Rafael Harvey-Pinard prepare for their return to the game.

There will be traffic up front and already a player like Michael Pezzetta has only played three games this season, it will be even more difficult for him to justify his place at the big club and he is not alone.

In an article in The Fourth Period today, they confirm that Kent Hughes is currently active on the phone and is ready to move.

Four teams would have contacted the GM of the Canadiens: the Oilers, the Ducks, the Penguins and the Kings.

The Habs have five forwards on expiring contracts and Hughes could look to move one of them to free up a spot on the team in the coming weeks.

Joel Armia, Christian Dvorak, Jake Evans, Michael Pezzetta and Lucas Condotta will all become unrestricted free agents next summer. Among them, Armia and Dvorak are unlikely to return next season and are considered prime candidates to be dealt before the March 7 trade deadline.

While the NHL says Hughes is still on the phone and engaged in various discussions with other clubs, a trade is not believed to be imminent for Friday. Montreal has recently been linked to teams like Anaheim, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Edmonton.
