Moroccan coach Lamia Boumehdi led TP Mazembe to their first coronation in the CAF Women’s Champions League against AS FAR (1-0), Saturday at the El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida. The coach of AS FAR, Mohamed Amine Alioua, predicted it well: “This final will be different from our meeting in the group stage” which ended in a victory for the capital team 3-1 .
Indeed, from the start of the match the Congolese exerted strong pressure on the AS FAR defense which was content to clear. The Military will not last very long before conceding a penalty in the first 5 minutes, awarded after using VAR. Marlene Kasaj Yav in the transformation… 1-0 for TP Mazembe.
Stunned after this opening score, the AS FAR players tried to come back, crescendoing in the match, but the direct and rapid play on the Corbelles sides remained very dangerous. In the 16th minute of the match, Kanjinga Nanguji, receiving a low cross from Marta, narrowly missed doubling the lead. Ten minutes later, the Moroccan champions won a free kick just inside the area but Doha El Madani did not aim her shot well. A few minutes before the end of the first period, Chaymaa Mourtaji slipped into the Congolese defense, but her foot shot was not well crossed.
In the second half, the Military tried to take the initiative but the Congolese always knew how to get by thanks to their physicality. No clear chances were recorded during the second half.
At the end of this final, the president of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe, accompanied in particular by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaâ and the president of TP Mazembe, Moïse Katumbi, proceeded with the presentation of the Cup at TP Mazembe and medals to the teams having occupied the first three places.
The Egyptian team of FC Masar took 3rd place in this competition, after its victory, Friday in the classification match, against the Nigerian Edo Queens on penalties (4 to 3, 0-0 regulation time).
