For a defender, to have Vincent Kompany as a coach is an invaluable opportunity. The maxim is far from exaggerated: whether at Anderlecht, Bayern or Burnley, the rearguard players benefit from his experience.
And it’s not just the newbies who are taken aside: Kompany wants to involve the whole group and doesn’t hesitate to give a little private lesson to his executives.
Bayern still need to find their defensive stability
Latest example with Dayot Upamecano. The 26-year-old Frenchman has played almost everything in the Bundesliga this season. But Vince The Prince still wanted to remind him of certain defensive behaviors.
He thus insisted with Upamecano on his attitude towards an attacker launched at full speed. The footage shows Kompany repositioning the French international and not letting go, getting involved in the action himself to show what he expects of him.
We won’t go so far as to say that Vincent could still put on his crampons again overnight, but his young age makes him a coach who is both close to his group and quick to set an example himself.
