Last stop before Euro 2024, the French Tournament will allow coach Sébastien Gardillou to refine his choices. Friday, November 22, France will also face a future opponent from its group, Spain. The first elements of response will be provided, particularly regarding the guard position.
The objective: prepare for Euro 2024
The French Tournament has only one goal: to prepare for the Euro, which will take place from November 28 to December 15, between Austria, Hungary and Switzerland. Les Bleues, reigning world champions, will face Poland (November 28), Spain (30) and Portugal (December 2) in Group C.
The first two teams in the group will qualify for the main round. The French team will therefore be able to measure themselves against the Spanish, the toughest opponent in the group.
Tamara Horacek, Chloé Valentini and Pauletta Foppa, named vice-captains of France, will have to blend into their role of supporting Estelle Nze Minko. Sébastien Gardillou, the new coach, will also have the opportunity to improve his statistics, after an initial defeat (30-27), then a victory (26-22) against Hungary.
The challenge: four goalkeepers to test… but not Cléopâtre Darleux
The goalkeeper position will be particularly worth monitoring. Floriane André (Brest), who discovered handball in Saint-Chamond, and Catherine Gabriel (Debrecen) will perhaps have a place to get, alongside the holders Laura Glauser (Ferencvaros) and Hatadou Sako (Györ). Cléopâtre Darleux was not selected, despite her very successful start to the season with Metz.
The program: France against Spain and Angola
The French team will play two matches at the Arena Saint-Étienne metropolis of Saint-Chamond. It will begin with a clash against Spain, Friday November 22 (8:45 p.m.), before meeting Angola, Sunday 24 (7 p.m.). Two opponents that the Blue dominated head and shoulders during the Olympic Games, respectively (32-24) and (38-24). The meetings will be followed on beIN Sports 2. The other matches will pit the Czech Republic against Angola (November 22 at 6 p.m.) and Spain against the Czech Republic (November 24 at 4:30 p.m.).
