Doping. Tatyana Tomashova loses her London Olympic silver medal, twelve years later

Twelve years later, the 1,500 meter medals at the London Olympic Games are still changing hands. Initially third then reclassified second after the disqualification of Asli Cakir Alptekin, Tatyana Tomashova has in turn been ejected from the ranking and stripped of her silver medal after two positive tests.

“We are committed to protecting the integrity of athletics and, even when events have long passed, we will fully investigate potential violations”insisted David Howman, president of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Five out of twelve athletes downgraded for doping

With the downgrading of Tatyana Tomashova, she is the fifth athlete present in the 1,500 meter final to fall for doping. Once across the line, the British athlete, Lisa Dobriskey, 10^ehad a presentiment: “I’m probably going to get in trouble for saying this, but I don’t think I’m competing on a level playing field. I think people will get caught eventually. In any case, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”.
