The curtain has fallen on the qualifying phases for Morocco’s CAN 2025. As a result, the identity of the 24 teams who will compete for the prestigious continental trophy from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 is known. Mozambique’s 2-1 match against Guinea-Bissau served to put a finishing touch on the final list of participants.
Cameroon had been determined on its fate for more than a month. Morocco, the host country, is among the favorites alongside the other countries: Algeria, Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Nigeria Cameroon. Several large countries will miss the continental meeting. Ghana, four-time champion of the competition, as well as Guinea and Cape Verde, respectively quarter-finalists of CAN 2023, failed to qualify.
If these absences are surprising, other teams are making history. Comoros and Botswana secure a historic second participation in the competition, highlighting the progress of “small” African nations on the continental scene.
