This is the case that has been shaking up social networks since Monday. Many Internet users, but also members of Paris 2024, have noticed the disappearance of the official Instagram and TikTok accounts for the Paris Olympics. And therefore hundreds of photos and videos of the event, but also of their millions of subscribers since Paris 2024 totaled 3.2 million subscribers on Instagram and 2.1 million on TikTok.
“They deleted our memories. Delete all that to ''recover'' the 3.5 million subscribers of Paris 2024. To monopolize the work of others and congratulate yourself on it in beautiful PowerPoint slides. You will be delighted to follow the Olympics accounts without you having decided to do so,” regrets a former employee of the Paris 2024 communications department in a post on LinkedIn.
Migration to the IOC
The employee thus mentions the recovery of these accounts by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since November 13 with the aim of transferring the publications, but also the subscribers and likes of the Paris 2024 Instagram account to Olympics, the one belonging to the CIO, according to the Tech & Co website.
This possibility of merger exists at Meta, for Instagram therefore, but not for TikTok. The Paris 2024 account was therefore renamed Olympic Games, owned by the IOC, in order to recover the 2.1 million subscribers. This merger did not exist during the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, the associated accounts therefore retained their independence.
