Surf. Annaëlle ready to surge for her last challenge

“We expect some action between Saturday November 23 and Wednesday November 27. Wait and see. » This is the content of one of the latest Facebook posts from the organizers of the Annaëlle Challenge. A bodyboarding competition as famous as it is secret which could not take place in 2022 and 2023, and which should be the last edition in 2024.

The Annaëlle Challenge is more than a competition. Annaëlle is a wave that breaks behind a small islet off Trois Moutons beach, in Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau (Finistère). A slab, namely a powerful and formidable wave which forms and grows on very shallow rocky bottoms.

“Most dangerous spot”

This exceptional spot for bodyboarding, long feared by locals and which some daring ones once dared to tackle, is therefore the location of this competition which has existed since 2009 and arouses quite a few fantasies.

Because it does not take place every year, because the 16 invited bodyboarders are only revealed at the last moment and are big names capable of frequenting this hostile wall of water, and finally because the event benefits from ‘a wide waiting period from September 14 to December 15, in order to benefit from the best waves.

We are therefore getting closer, hoping that the conditions are met two days in a row, like in 2021 when Annaëlle was registered on the IBC (International Bodyboard Corporation) world professional calendar as Invitational Specialty Event, attracting some of the best bodyboarders in the world like Louis Costes, double world champion.

Title holder, he is expected in North Finistère for a hat-trick. “Annaëlle, this is the most dangerous spot in . She is capricious because she is super fast and very intense”he explained in 2021, to 20 minutes.

Possible only in the fall due to nesting on the island, the competition should be the last due to the complexity of its organization. This promises some hits. And if Annaëlle was capricious, the organizers would postpone these last strong sensations until later.
