The last 5 tickets remaining to be allocated for the final phase of CAN 2025 will be given out Monday and Tuesday on the occasion of the 6th and final day of the qualifiers.
For now, 19 qualified out of 24 for the final phase are known, but 5 groups have not yet completely delivered their verdict and 11 selections can still dream of qualification. We will be entitled to 2 “finals”, 2 distance duels and a three-way match. Here is the point group by group.
Botswana/Mauritania (Group C)
Twelve years after its only appearance, in 2012, the Botswana has never been so close to regaining the CAN. Buoyed by their double victory against Cape Verde in October, the Zebras resisted the Mauritania Friday at home (1-1). On Tuesday they travel to Egypt and will qualify if they do not lose.
For its part, Mauritania welcomes a Cape Verde already eliminated with the obligation to win while banking on a defeat of Botswana which Amir Abdou’s men would then be ahead of in the results of direct confrontations.
Benin/Rwanda/Libya (Group D)
This will be the only three-way match of this final day. 2nd in this group D, the Benign makes a perilous move in Libya Monday and will qualify if he doesn’t lose and likely eliminated if he loses. It’s that simple for the Cheetahs…
For its part, Libya can qualify if it beats Benin while recovering from its 2-1 defeat in the first leg and hoping that, at the same time, the Rwanda does not impose itself on the terrain of an already qualified Nigeria. The Knights of the Mediterranean, and the Amavubi, who need a defeat of Benin, are therefore no longer masters of their destiny.
Sudan/Niger (Group F)
No one would have bet on this scenario but it is Ghana which is already eliminated before this last day and the final ticket is played on Monday between Sudan and Niger. The Nile Crocodiles, absent from the last edition, will qualify if they do not lose in Libya against Angola, already qualified. For its part, to compete in its first CAN since 2013, the Niger of the Moroccan Badou Zaki must win in Ghana while banking on a defeat of Sudan, which he would be ahead of in the results of direct confrontations.
Mozambique/Guinea Bissau (Group I)
Both present at the last CAN, the Guinea Bissau and Mozambique will play a real “final” or “play-off” on Tuesday in Bissau. With its three points lead, Mozambique will be able to settle for a draw or even a defeat by a goal difference and with more than one goal scored.
Guinea Bissau, on the other hand, finds itself obliged to win, with a score of 1-0 or with at least two goals difference, in order to catch up with the Mambas and overtake them in the record of direct confrontations by going up the defeat with a score of 2-1 in the first leg.
Guinea/Tanzania (Group H)
By snatching victory in the 92nd minute on Saturday against DR Congo thanks to the inevitable Sehrou Guirassy, Guinea achieved success extremely important. Indeed, Syli National thus retains its second place in group H, with two points ahead of the Tanzania3rd, and can be satisfied with a draw to ensure their qualification on Tuesday against the Taifa Stars, who are obliged to win.
In the warm atmosphere of Dar Es Salam, however, the mission promises to be tough for the Guineans. One thing is certain: one of these two teams, which were present at the last CAN, will remain at the dock.
