Following the visit of Olympique Lyonnais this Friday, the DNCG, the financial policeman of French football, took the decision to heavily sanction the Ligue 1 club. The situation is becoming urgent on the OL side.
“The meeting went well” said John Textor, the owner of Olympique Lyonnais, after his appearance before the DNCG (National Directorate of Control and Management) this Friday. But the financial policeman of French football did not really agree with this by deciding to heavily sanction OL.

Indeed, the seven-time French champion will be prohibited from recruiting new elements during the next winter transfer window, which will begin on Wednesday January 1, 2025 and end on Monday February 3, 2025 at 11:00 p.m. A control of the payroll was also ordered by the DNCG while the club has nearly 505 million euros in cumulative debts.

But OL, currently fifth in the Ligue 1 standings, was mainly demoted as a precautionary measure at the end of the 2024-2025 season. The legendary French football club could thus evolve into Ligue 2 by next season if the state of the accounts does not improve. Consequently, the Rhone club, still involved in the Europa League, will have to replenish the coffers in the coming months and should be forced to part ways with these best players (Rayan Cherki, Alexandre Lacazette, Georges Mikautadze and Malick Fofana).
