British sailor Sam Goodchild (Vulnerable) has regained control of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe, at the expense of Nicolas Lunven (Holcim PRB), while the leading skippers are heading towards Cape Verde, according to the score taken this Friday at 07:00. The 34-year-old rookie, for whom the initial objective was above all to complete his first solo circumnavigation, had already taken the lead on Tuesday, off the coast of Portugal.
After leaving the Canaries behind him, the Briton, who has been living in Brittany since 2011, took the lead again and was, at 7:00 a.m., 20.58 nautical miles ahead of Nicolas Lunven (Holcim), the previous leader of the race. If the leading group advances at a moderate pace – around 15 knots -, the battle for 3rd place rages between the German Boris Hermann, the Swiss Justine Mettraux and Yoann Richomme, who are held in less than a nautical mile .
