“I have never experienced a situation like this”: Domenico Tedesco takes stock of a truce like no other – All football

Domenico Tedesco spoke to the press on the eve of the match against Italy. He notably mentioned the infirmary.

“Everyone present is in good shape,” Domenico Tedesco immediately said, delighted to start his press conference with good news. But then why did you invite Lucas Stassin to training when the 23 Devils were present?

“Everyone is in good shape, but not everyone is ready to play” qualified the coach, who favored precaution with the players who were barely back in training.

Lucas Stassin was with us because we wanted to play eleven against eleven” continued Tedesco. “Romeo Lavia couldn’t do it, or at least we wanted to spare him. This is why we used Stassin.”

A constant dialogue with the Imps

It would therefore be surprising to see Lavia in action against Italy. The puzzle is complex for Tedesco: “I have never experienced a situation like this with so many injured players. Of the 50 players in the pre-selection, 20 are not available. The last few days have been very busy.”

He thus justifies himself for having forced the U21s: “I had meetings with Franky Vercauteren and Gill Swerts these last few days, and we wanted to do our best. Normally we don’t touch these players, but in a situation as special as this, we had to do it.”
