Formula 1 | Horner: We have to start considering Verstappen as one of the greatest in

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes Max Verstappen should be considered one of the greatest drivers of all time once he wins his fourth F1 driver’s title.

After his remarkable comeback from 17th on the grid to win the São Paulo Grand Prix, Verstappen is now 62 points ahead of Lando Norris.

As a result, the Dutchman will win his fourth consecutive crown in Las Vegas, if he finishes ahead of Norris in the event of a top 4 finish or if he only concedes a maximum of two points outside.

Horner recognized that a step “important” had been crossed for the preservation of Verstappen’s crown in Brazil.

When asked if Verstappen was special to F1, Horner replied: “Yes, absolutely.”

“If he continues like this, if he wins that fourth title, which hopefully is just a small step forward for him to take now, then you have to start looking at him as the one of the greatest in sport.”

“I think he drives at an incredible level, as he has continually demonstrated. He is great to work with when he is in the car, he gives you everything.”

“And he still has that hunger and passion, it’s great to see.”

What Verstappen did in Brazil was so remarkable that the Red Bull boss compared it to Ayrton Senna’s “Tour of the Gods” at Donington Park in 1993. He stands by this comparison which has been criticized on social media.

“I think it was one of his best races. Coming from 17th in those conditions to win the Grand Prix was exceptional.”

“So this win was among his best, if not his best. When we talk about some of the best races we’ve seen over the years from some of the biggest names, Senna at Donnington in 93 m’ came to mind. It was, in my opinion, of this level.”
