Offensive festival of Servette Chênois, exploit of Yverdon

Yverdon Women’s Sport is in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup. After eliminating Rapperswil in the round of 16, the -Vaudoises have a second Super League team on their radar. Sunday at the Municipal Stadium, the leader of LNB won after extra time against Thun (5-1 after). A well-deserved victory.

Arnaud Vialatte’s side only needed six minutes of play to take the lead. Recovering the ball at midfield, Ilona Guede Redondo was able to throw Kaia Grande in depth, who beat the exit of the opposing goal. The visitors, determined to honor their rank as a team playing in the elite, almost equalized with a header from Nina Schwemdimann from a corner (40th). But the young Sarah Chatton (18 years old) pulled out all the stops. It was only a postponement. Returning from the locker room, the Bernese increased the pace and restored parity thanks to a strike from Sina Schüpbach under the crossbar (50th). Everything had to be done again for YSF.

The Yverdonnoises wanted to take advantage of this duel to show that they will be very serious candidates for promotion during the next play-offs and that they had nothing to envy of their opponents. They then took the game into their own hands, chaining together opportunities. But Tanja Bondemann (60th), Grande (65th) and Guede Redondo (66th, 76th) all three lacked precision in the last gesture. Coming up against the Thun goalkeeper, Taïs Patterson also failed to avoid overtime.

The efforts of LNB’s best team, however, ended up paying off. More like four times than one. Patterson (95th) and Guede Redondo (96th), thanks to two bright passes from Chloé Le Franc, relieved the Municipal Stadium. Mass was said, while Valentine Rahm increased the score (112th). Guede Redondo’s superb lob definitively extinguished the Super League’s red lantern (119th). The highlight of the show.

Double title holder, Servette Chênois did not have to exert her talent to qualify for the next round. Traveling to the canton of Zurich to face Zürisee United (1st league), the Garnet triumphed 0-10. The suspense did not last long since the Genevans were already leading 0-3 after ten minutes, then 0-7 before the half hour mark. Laura Tufo (5th), Cassandra Korhonen (8th, 26th), Rimante Jonusaite (10th, 26th, 54th), Ana Jelencic (21st), Maéva Clémaron (28th), Manon Revelli (68th) and Paloma Lazarro (84th) participated in this shooting party.

On Saturday, Young Boys won the clash of the round of 16. Teammates Naomi Luyet and Iman Beney won 3-1 against Grasshopper, thanks in particular to a double from Courtney Strode. In the other Super League duel, Aarau got the better of Lucerne (1-3). For their part, Basel corrected Biel (1st league) 0-7, Zurich dominated Küssnacht (LNB) 0-4 and Saint-Gall won in Düdingen (1st league) 0-4.
