Meeting with several Swiss riders
The Vans bounce on the board. The air slips through the fingers and the asphalt under the wheels. Headphones in her ears, music in her body, the Portuguese Ruba Nemekh dances on wheels. “When I started longboarding, I felt like my inner child was reborn,” she explains on camera. Traveling forward. This time, it’s a wave. Around twenty women “ride” on the seaside and in the streets of Barcelona to electro sounds. And then the light returns to the Oblo cinema in Lausanne, where Thursday evening was broadcast Beyond Bo(a)rdersa documentary by Axel Massin bringing together the words and flow of 25 riders, from 12 different countries, members of the Longboard Girls Crew (LGC).
Created in Madrid in 2010, this association has largely contributed to democratizing the practice of longboarding among women. Today, it has made its nest in around sixty countries, in Europe, North America and Latin America, as well as in South Africa and Asia – where Japanese and Korean women are a hit. In Switzerland, there are two branches: in Zurich and Lausanne, where LGC Switzerland organizes a free session every Monday evening and two workshops, mixed and single-mixed, per month.
