Club: PSG keeps faith in its new project, but plans “some adjustments”

Despite the defeat against Atlético Madrid and the club's worrying situation in the Champions League, PSG is staying the course and does not intend to call into question its new project, nor the future of Luis Enrique. However, adjustments are expected in the coming months.

Defeated on Wednesday evening at the last second by an Atlético Madrid which it largely dominated, PSG is in a disappointing 25th place, out of 36, in the standings of the championship phase of the Champions League while four matches out of eight have already been played . Leader of Ligue 1, with 6 points ahead of OM and Monaco, PSG is not making it for the moment in C1.

With four matches still to play, PSG can still aim for qualification for the play-offs and a place in the Top 24, but it will a priori need to take at least six points against Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Manchester City and Salzburg. Not easy knowing that PSG will host the Skyblues but will travel to their three other opponents.

Total trust in Luis Enrique and the new project

The day after their defeat in the Champions League, Luis Enrique and his players received a visit from Nasser Al-Khelaïfi at the PSG Campus on Thursday morning. According to L'Equipe and Le Parisien, the president of PSG supported his players and his coach and reiterated his faith in the new project launched last year. A new project focused on youth and the collective, with Luis Enrique as guide.

If he has been strongly criticized by observers in recent hours, the Spaniard also retains the total confidence of his management according to L'Equipe, which recalls that the Spaniard has extended until 2027, even if this extension does not is not yet official. Sources close to circles of power in Doha and also assured the sports daily that the club intends to give time to the new project launched and that there is no question of calling everything into question.

Adjustments from the winter transfer window?

The club wants to continue to mature its young squad and even if the objective is of course to qualify for the next round of C1, a possible elimination would not lead to a revolution. In any case, this is the message delivered by the club in recent hours. L'Equipe and Le Parisien, however, add in their today's edition that PSG privately concedes that it still plans “some adjustments” in the coming months. Like recruiting players who are a little more experienced or who have a very strong individuality?

In recent days, L'Equipe explained that PSG's priority in the winter transfer window was to recruit a winger to intensify the competition and a right central defender in the event of a market opportunity. For the moment, the recruitment of a center forward this winter is therefore not in the plans, especially since Gonçalo Ramos must return to competition by the end of November, potentially on the 22nd against , four days before the clash against Bayern Munich. A player on whom Luis Enrique and the club rely a lot.
