Algeria Football – The winger of the Morocco team, Hakim Ziyech, is severely punished by the king with his latest outing against his country’s regime.
Morocco’s national coach, Walid Regragui, unveiled this Thursday, November 7, his list of players called up for the last two matches of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers, which will take place in Morocco. These decisive matches will pit the Atlas Lions against Gabon and Lesotho.
The great return of Brahim Diaz et
Noussair Mazraouiafter a period of absences due to injuries, marked Regragui’s list. The coach will therefore be able to count on their valuable contribution to strengthen his team and aim for qualification.
In addition to these two returns, several essential frameworks such as
Nayef Aguerd, Yassine Bounou,
Munir Mohamed et Ashraf Hakimi
are summoned, thus consolidating the Moroccan squad with experienced players for these key matches.
However, the most notable absence is that of
Hakim Ziyechwho was excluded from the selection by order of the King of Morocco. The move follows controversial statements made by Ziyech regarding the country’s politics. According to some sources, the Al-Ittihad player expressed opinions deemed incompatible with royal values and policies, which led to this exclusion from the national team. Ziyech’s absence thus created a precedent in the management of relations between the federation and certain players, reinforcing the authority of decisions taken in high places.
With these two decisive matches, Morocco hopes to ensure its qualification for CAN 2025. Regragui seems to have relied on a mix of experienced players and talents in great shape to achieve this objective.
