Anderlecht supporters must have been surprised to discover a name in David Hubert’s selection for the trip to the RFS. Ali Maamar was picked up for the first time.
This Wednesday, around the same time as David Hubert’s press conference, his selection was revealed. One name was surprising: Ali Maamar, whom Hubert mentioned himself. “If Lapage is going to play? He could play, like every player in the selection. Including Maamar,” smiled the RSC Anderlecht coach.
But who is Ali Maamar ? He is a young 19-year-old Belgian-Moroccan full-back, who has won the RSCA Futures since the start of 2024. Last season, he made his debut in the Challenger Pro League in second part of the season.
This season, Maamar is a starter and has provided two assists in ten games from his right-back position. His presence in the group can be seen as a “no cost” warning to Thomas Foket, who has not really convinced recently.
Maamar is not the only Futures player to be present in the squad since Nilson Angulo, somewhat missing since the arrival of David Hubert, makes his return to the group. Amando Lapage is also included.
Ludwig Augustinsson and Leander Dendoncker did not make the trip, suffering a slight injury and joining the long-term injured Jan Vertonghen and Thorgan Hazard. Majeed Ashimeru, who was injured on Sunday, is also absent.
