If there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the honeymoon between Martin St. Louis and supporters as well as the media in Quebec is over.
More than ever, we hear criticism about the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens as his team has lost 6 of its last 8 games and is on a three-game losing streak while languishing in last place in the division. Atlantic as well as 30th overall in the NHL.
One of the criticisms that comes up most often is about his famous defensive system which just doesn’t seem to be working so far.
But is it the system that doesn’t work or the players who are unable to understand it?
Passing on the waves of BPM Sportsthe journalist Vincent Demuywhich covers the activities of the Laval Rocket, raised a worrying point to say the least: When he was questioned about the Canadian’s system and that of the Rocket, defender Logan Mailloux affirmed that they were two systems different. However, a few minutes later, head coach Pascal Vincent affirmed for his part that it was exactly the same system.
There was an alarming observation this week with Logan Mailloux and Pascal Vincent who we had in a back to back interview. We talked about the playing system with Logan Mailloux, the famous hybrid system in Montreal, then we asked him if it was the same in Laval as in Montreal, he who has been on both teams. Logan Mailloux said that no, it was not the same system then Pascal Vincent, 8 minutes later, arrived in the press scrum and said that no, it was absolutely the same system.
There is a lack of understanding, I have the impression, of what is taught to players in Montreal.

Is it that Martin St. Louis needs to do a better job of making sure his players better understand the system he’s trying to implement in games? This could possibly explain why the team has struggled so much defensively since the start of the season.
