Induction into the Hall of Fame is often the perfect opportunity for new members to come full circle after a successful career in the world of hockey.
This edition will be no exception and it will also have a special touch for Shea Weber and David Poile.
Our collaborator for The AthleticPierre LeBrun, underlined during the “Canadiens pre-match” that the induction of the two men Monday evening will add a chapter to the “great reconciliation” which has taken place between the two men since 2016.
As LeBrun points out, he recalls that the exchange which sent the defender from the Nashville Predators to the Montreal Canadiens in the summer of 2016, in return for PK Subban, had so surprised Weber that the latter had long resentments and he did not have discussions with Poile for several years. It wasn’t actually until 2022 that the former Preds GM and the player started talking again during goaltender Pekka Rinne’s jersey retirement in Nashville.
Weber told LeBrun he was now happy to be able to experience the Hall of Fame induction Monday night along with that of his former Predators general manager. Looking back on the situation, he mentioned to the informant The Athletic “that everything ended perfectly, because he enjoyed his stay in Montreal so much,” reported LeBrun.
Weber played 11 seasons in a Predators uniform before following up with five campaigns in the colors of the Montreal Canadiens.
In addition to Weber and Poile, Jeremy Roenick, Pavel Datsyuk, Krissy Wendell, Natalie Darwitz and Colin Campbell will also make their debut at the Temple on Monday evening.
Concerns among the Jets
On another note, LeBrun addressed the subject of fan presence in Winnipeg which concerns team management.
Despite the Manitoba team’s excellent start to the season, the Jets only recorded one full house at the Canada Life Centre, with a capacity of 15,321, when it comes to hockey games. It was against the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 28.
LeBrun reports that last Sunday, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, it was announced that 12,900 seats had been filled. The Jets have played six home games this season and the goal according to LeBrun is to reach 13,000 in attendance for the games.
Winnipeg has the best record in the NHL this season with 11 wins in 12 games heading into Tuesday’s games.
