HACA President Latifa Akharbach called for balanced regulation of the digital space, combining market freedom and protection of users’ rights, during an international conference in Bangkok.
Akharbouch stressed the importance of guaranteeing legal certainty for digital platforms while defending companies against content harmful to the general interest and societal values.
Akharbach cited the efforts of Morocco and other African countries to strengthen their regulation in the face of digital risks, linked in particular to infrastructure and the policies of large platforms towards the continent. As president of the Network of African Regulatory Bodies of communication, she reiterated HACA’s commitment to international cooperation to promote a regulatory model guaranteeing market freedom, freedom of expression and access to reliable content.
The conference, organized by the IIC and the National Broadcasting Commission of Thailand, a brought together more than 200 global media and telecommunications players.
