Derrick Henry and Zay Flowers scored two touchdowns each, and the Baltimore Ravens dominated the Denver Broncos by a score of 41-10 on Sunday afternoon.
The Ravens now have a record of 6-3, after enjoying a sixth success in their last seven outings.
In his ninth season in the NFL and his first in the colors of Baltimore, Henry maintains an infernal pace, with a harvest of 107 yards on the ground, as well as two touchdowns on the ground, his 10th and 11th already.
After nine games in 2024, the 30-year-old star running back has totaled 1,053 rushing yards, and can still aspire to threaten Erick Dickerson’s all-time record of 2,105 rushing yards. This brand was established in 1984.
Since 1970, Henry is only the fifth running back to have reached the 1,000-yard plateau in his ninth outing. The others are Dickerson, Stephen Davis, Adrian Peterson and Ezekiel Elliott.
He also became the third player in history to score ten rushing touchdowns in seven straight years, joining LaDainian Tomlinson (2001-09) and Adrian Peterson (2007-13).
“We’ve been very good on the ground for a long time, but it’s different. Derrick Henry is different, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh admitted. It adds a dimension that we didn’t have before. Maybe we have to go back to Jamal Lewis (to find such an effective running back). »
Since starting the campaign with a modest 46 yards, Henry has never had worse than 73 yards rushing.
Lamar Jackson was not to be outdone: the Ravens’ star quarterback also shone by throwing three major passes, including two to Flowers, who amassed 127 yards on five catches.
Jackson completed 16 of his 19 passes. He claimed a perfect rating of 158.3, the fourth of his career.
“He’s a phenomenal football player, he throws the ball really well. It’s difficult to do what he does on a regular basis, Nix admitted, speaking of Jackson. He missed a few practices this week and came out in great shape. Bravo to him. He’s a phenomenal player. That’s why he gets all the accolades he gets. It’s special to be able to share the field with a guy like him. »
Baltimore will remain in second place in the American North Division standings for the moment, given that Pittsburgh (6-2) benefited from a week off.
John Harbaugh’s defensive unit didn’t force a punt until the third quarter, but a few stops on fourth down helped Baltimore erase its surprising loss to Cleveland last week.
Denver suffered a fourth defeat in nine outings. The Broncos scored ten points in the second quarter, but were shut out in the other three.
“It’s a good beating,” said Broncos head coach Sean Payton bluntly. When you play a good team like this on the road, you want to be in the game going into the fourth quarter and we weren’t able to do that. »
Rookie quarterback Bo Nix completed 17 of 30 passes for 188 yards. He did not score a touchdown and was the victim of an interception, and three sacks for 22 yards of losses.
