An hour after the superb coronation of Célia Gerythe French team had a new chance of a medal during the Men’s Espoirs event. European Cyclo-cross Championshipscontested this Sunday noon under a beautiful sun on the Spanish circuit of Pontevedra. And like his young compatriot, Aubin Sparfel shone in his first international competition among the Espoirs by winning bronze after a magnificent race and a final full of twists and turns! It’s the Belgian and defending champion Girl Michels who retained his European crown and made the double by overcoming the Italian Philip Agostinacchio in the final sprint, after eight laps of the circuit.

The terrible disillusionment of David Haverdings benefits Aubin Sparfel
As Rémi Lelandais in 2023, Aubin Sparfel brings bronze to France in the U23 category, all at just 18 years old! A charm obtained at the end of an incredible scenario, since only a few hectometers from the finish, the European Junior champion in 2023 seemed to be heading straight towards a beautiful but frustrating fourth place. Hunting for several rounds with Yordi Corsus behind the Italian Philip Agostinacchiothe Belgian Girl Michels and the Dutch David Haverdingsthe runner of the Conti Decathlon AG2R The World failed to plug the gap of around ten seconds on this leading trio.
But as the final sprint approached on the final lap, David Haverdings suffered a mechanical problem with his chain and lost all hope of competing for the title and even a medal, the Batavian finally finishing 10th at 43 seconds! A racing event which therefore benefited Aubin Sparfelwho did not need to be asked to dominate all in power Yordi Corsus for an unexpected bronze medal 12″ from the now double European champion. The great collective race of the Blues is worth highlighting since Nathan Bommenelwhich has a time rolled for Saving error in the pursuit group, takes 5th place on the line, followed a little further by Jules Simon (13e), Tristan Verrier (15e) and Romain Debord (18e).
