We had to wait a few weeks and the start of the SBL championship, but the decision was made: Vevey Riviera will have to play in the 1st league and not in the highest division of the country.
As a reminder, the Galeries du Rivage club had not received its license last August from the federation. The body considered the debts to be too high. Vevey contested this decision and decided to go to the CAS.
A first division with nine
The hearing was held on Wednesday October 30 in Lausanne and confirmed the decision of the Swiss Basketball Opposition Commission. There will therefore only be nine teams this season in the first division.
Secretary General of Swiss Basketball, Erik Lehmann regrets seeing a club with a rich past like Vevey having to return to the third division: “It is never a good signal to see a club suffer administrative relegation. We supported them, but we must to be correct towards the other elite clubs, but with their junior movement and by getting into compliance, I hope that Vevey will be able to move up the ranks.”
