The popular success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of this summer is reflected in clubs in the town, which see new young graduates arrive.

“Last year, we welcomed 358 licensees including 175 young people under 18 years old. To date, for this 2024-2025 season, we already have 220 minors registered in the four sporting disciplines offered to young people: football, badminton, handball and basketball,” underlines the president of the Union Sportive de Pré- en-Pail, Yannick Pichereau, who is keen to maintain or even develop “this club dynamic which places emphasis on welcoming young people from our territory. »

Train volunteer supervisors

The vice-president in charge of basketball, Julien Passays, thinks “that in fact, the great performances and results at the Olympics of the teams of basket influenced the registrations of 36 young people curious to discover this new discipline at USP.” This dynamic is well followed by adult basketball players. Six of them have just been trained as supervisors.

The only discipline that loses members compared to last year is the footballwith 110 young people this year, compared to 122 in 2023.

Thomas Tricot, the new vice-president of hand-ball welcomes this season 33 young boys and girls registered in the departmental championships and proud to wear the colors of Pré-en-Pail-Saint-Samson. “I don’t think the Olympics will have an impact on this year’s registrations. The children come, for the most part, looking for moments of camaraderie with their friends. On the other hand, the club allows children to progress and improve physical and technical performances.”

The new management team is voluntary and will improve the organization of practice and communication with families over the weeks.

The number of young people has doubled in five years

The section badminton has existed for many years and “41 young people are registered so far, an increase of around 10% compared to last year. We are fortunate to have a stable and competent team of supervisors” confides Ophélie Blottiere, the vice-president of the section.

Treasurer Roger Coupé salutes the voluntary commitment of “ 45 animators supervisors present every week of the sports season at training and every Saturday or Sunday on the sports fields to support the youth teams in their respective championships.

This operation with trained volunteer facilitators makes it possible to offer licenses at reasonable costs.

The Sports Union continues its mission to develop sports practice despite the vagaries of the moment: thefootball pennant team went down to third departmental division“but the desire to bring the values ​​of sport to life with young licensees, to best supervise all our youth and adult teams, remain our priorities” concludes the president of the club.
