Media. Four new sports television channels will soon be launched in Morocco

Consolidate the role of the media

Beyond simple coverage of competitions, the objective is also to make public audiovisual media true promoters of “positive values ​​and ideals of sport in the service of social cohesion, territorial inclusion, unity and national identity,” further asserts the regulatory body. An important societal role that sport, through its unifying and unifying potential, is able to play within Moroccan society. And this in particular in favor of gender equality, the CSCA calling on this occasion for “greater media coverage of women’s sport and a fairer media representation of female expertise in this field”.

The legal and regulatory aspect

The launch of these new sports channels must be done in compliance with the legal and regulatory provisions in force, explains the HACA. Law No. 77-03 relating to audiovisual communication thus stipulates in its article 17 a certain number of obligations with which future operators must comply. Among them: “prevention against possible interference with the use of other telecommunications techniques”, “the possible co-use of installations and the location of transmitters, when this equipment has sufficient capacity”, but also compliance with the “clauses of a specification, established by the High Authority (…) which specifies all the administrative, technical and financial conditions of the license”. Specifications setting out the public service obligations of the new channels, controlled by the HACA.
