Vincent Labrune was re-elected without difficulty as president of the LFP last September. This does not mean, however, that the Orléanais are unanimous, and in particular among the senators responsible for the fact-finding mission on the management of the body (Laurent Lafon (UDI), president, and Michel Savin (LR ), rapporteur). Their report draws up some not very reassuring findings on the way the League operates: “We were struck by the fact that over time, the legal link between the League, the Federation and the ministry had disappeared, the League being in total autonomy. The control that the FFF and the ministry were to exercise has disappeared, going against the legal nature of subdelegation. However, the Ministry of Sports and the FFF must take their responsibilities”explained Laurent Lafon (remarks relayed by The Team).
The senators particularly pointed out the lack of transparency. And among their 35 recommendations is the desire for a law establishing that the president of the commercial subsidiary of the LFP is not paid if he is a representative of the League, the opposite of what is currently happening. The notion of conflict of interest also came up several times during the hearings, in particular concerning Nasser al-Khelaïfi whose dual role (beIN Sports, PSG) raises questions. Finally, the report advises setting a remuneration ceiling for the presidents of professional leagues, as for public companies (€450,000), giving more power to the DNCG in particular to control the League and its commercial subsidiaries, and to fight against piracy. In short, the fact-finding mission wishes to establish “good ethical practices”.
Certain decisions in recent years raise questions about the functioning of the LFP. As a reminder, Pablo Longoria supported Vincent Labrune during the elections. The president of OM has gained weight since he was elected vice-president of the body at the start of the week.
