On Sunday, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, the Heat organized a ceremony to unveil a new statue of Dwyane Wade to immortalize the career of the popular now-retired guard.
Thus, Wade is the first Heat player to see himself eternally frozen in time like this by the team.
The ceremony came about eight months after Pat Riley’s stated desire to solidify Wade’s legacy with the team. The president and co-owner of the team since 1995 has often maintained that Wade was the heart and soul of the championship teams and the statue confirms it all.
A first-round pick in 2003 (5th overall), Wade remained in Miami until 2016 and won three championships with the team. One before the arrival of LeBron James and Chris Bosh and two with his acolytes from Big 3 from Florida.
Wade also played briefly in Cleveland and Miami before returning to retire with Miami in 2018.
On hand for the unveiling of his statue, Wade seemed incredulous at this great tribute.
“Who is this man? »
The phrase, however, was turned on its head by internet users due to the very rough resemblance of the statue.
Timeless Creation’s artwork did not capture Wade’s facial features, at least not to the point where the resemblance would be striking.
The Heat are preparing for their game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.
