Longoria wants to “build a three-year project” and asks for “a little patience”

OM: Longoria wants to “build a three-year project” and asks for “a little patience”

Seven points taken from a possible nine, the promise of an exciting game, and recruits already in great shape like Mason Greenwood. Determined to turn the page on a chaotic 2023-2024 season that ended without a European Cup, OM has started strong this summer with the demanding and ambitious Roberto De Zerbi at the helm.

While it will probably take time for the Italian coach to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and find the right formula by working with the significant number of reinforcements that arrived during the transfer window, the first outings of this largely remodelled Marseille have already given real reasons for hope to the supporters.

A positive impression that will need to be confirmed this Saturday with the reception of the neighboring Nice (5 p.m.) on the occasion of the fourth day of Ligue 1. While waiting for this test against Franck Haise’s men, also candidates for a European ticket, Pablo Longoria confided in his ambitions during an interview given this Thursday as part of the “Thinking Football Summit”, an event organized in Portugal bringing together various personalities from the world of football.

“We must be ambitious”

“Our goal is to build a three-year project. That’s our first goal. Secondly, we are very happy with our start to the season. Our goal is to participate in the Champions League and improve our level. After that, we will see what the competition has in store for us. We must be ambitious. We must, for our supporters, be ambitious but at the same time, we must be realistic,” said the president of the Marseille club, in comments reported by L’Equipe.

“I’m not saying we can’t be competitive. I’m asking for a little patience because this is a three-year project and we want to improve every day, every week and every match day,” he said. Led in particular by Mason Greenwood, who has already scored five goals and is praised by his president who praises his “incredible level”, OM started the season with a win in Brest (5-1), before being held to a draw by Reims (2-2), and then correcting the situation in Toulouse (3-1). Only PSG did better by winning its first three matches.
