Doué-en-Anjou. “Hosting departmental and regional competitions”

Interview

At the exit of Doué-la-, in the direction of Saint-Georges-sur-Layon, the Carte terrain has seen the development of additional playing fields, which will allow the Racing club (RCD) pétanque to host competitions. President of the RCD, Jean-Pierre Grellet talks about the club and expectations.

What’s the news from the club?

Jean-Pierre Grellet: “This year, the club has 72 members, including twelve children and twenty members. The pétanque school is expanding. We are working to develop this school and obtain its certification in a few years. Every year, in September, we organize a family and friendly day with the aim of introducing people to our sport. Following this day, we had three young people who wanted to come and learn more about this sport and get their license for next season. »

What are the results of this season?

“We were lucky to have a senior men’s triplet who were departmental champions. We also had a senior double who was a departmental champion and a junior who was a departmental precision shooting champion. Our junior team went to the regional championship in Blain, in -Atlantique, a first for the club. The results are satisfactory and encouraging for the sporting seasons to come. »

Where is the work on the Carte grounds?

“The municipality has carried out the extension of the playing fields which will allow us to host departmental and regional competitions. We will apply for this organization from next season. We are still waiting for the project to install photovoltaic panels and umbrellas which will cover all of the playing fields. Michel Pattée told me that the town hall had taken over this file. »

How does the pétanque club work?

“The club lives on memberships. The municipality provides the Carte field and the covered bowling alley which allows the practice of this sport in winter. We also benefit from subsidies granted by the town hall but, as with all sports, it is the sponsors who participate in the life of the club by financing the sports equipment. We also have a team of very committed volunteer graduate trainers who make the pétanque school run very well. »
