From the “trust” and a way to “frame [s]we daily”. This is what sport brings to Caraccioli that cannot be found elsewhere.

Having had his left arm amputated since 2017 following a car accident, the 29-year-old young man has thrown himself headlong into the race since that date. “It started with stadium laps, then races, trails and two marathons. Now it’s ingrained in me. I have only experienced great adventures and met great people thanks to sport.”, he says.

Thus, after and Stockholm, Bastien Caraccioli will start the legendary New York marathon on November 3. A meeting for which he has been training since last August.

I have 40 workouts planned, I have four left to do. I run on the road between 10 and 25 kilometers per session. And I planned three to four workouts per week.” A preparation that he completes with muscle strengthening and core training sessions.

Originally from Argiusta-Moriccio, in Taravo, Bastien Caraccioli set himself a goal: to complete the race in 3 hours 40 minutes. This is the time I spent in Paris and Stockholm. There I’m going to run with a friend who lives there and for whom it’s the first marathon, but she pushes me to run at my own pace.

If running is an “accomplishment”, it is also an investment. All foreign runners wishing to participate must contact an agency and reserve four nights of hotel accommodation in addition to registration. “In my case, the marathon costs 2,800 euros, just the bib is 580 euros”, explains Bastien Caraccioli.

A sum that the runner managed to collect by organizing events, particularly sporting events, for the benefit of his association “Attrape-rêve” which he founded in 2021.For example, I go to schools on a voluntary basis to tell about my journey and promote the values of sport. Afterwards everyone interprets it all as they wish.”, he explains.

A few weeks before the start, Bastien Caraccioli is certain that this race will be “mythical”. “As luck would have it, this is my 100th bib, and five days later I will celebrate my 30th birthday in New York. We will say that the planets have aligned”, he laughs.

For the moment, Bastien Caraccioli does not want to think about the race in which he will participate after his American stay. “Everything in its time, he tempers. I can roughly see the main points but I’m not getting carried away.

Refusing to talk about pride, he says he is happy with his journey. “I see pride in the eyes of my loved ones who have supported me unwaveringly from the start. And when I see that, I know I did something right.
